fifth Annual Papillion Kids Triathlon
August 3rd, 2019
8:30am
Papillion Recreation and the Papillion Triathlon Club are teaming up to give kids the opportunity to complete a Triathlon while having lots of fun in a safe environment. The Last Try at Summer triathlon will act as an introduction to triathlons for kids ages 6 to 14. The event is not timed, all racers will receive a finishing medal and an event shirt.
Parking traffic volunteers will guide cars into the parking lot area designated just north of the Papio Bay Aquatic Center off of Halleck Park Rd. Just a friendly reminder, that the entire course will be closed to ensure the kids safety. We will close down entrance to the park at 8:15 am and will re-open the Lincoln St. entrance at 9:30 am.
Packet pickup will occur the day of the race. There will be a registration tent on-site from 7:00 am-8:15 am.
Body marking volunteers will be by the registration tent doing body markings. The race number will be marked on the right arm and age on the right calf.
Transition area will be on the Papio Bay Aquatic Center parking lot which is designated for the transition area. Bike racks will be provided and is on a first come first serve basis. Volunteers will be in the area to help the triathletes with anything they need. The transition area will close at 8:15 am. Each participant should make their way inside the pool area for instructions and race start. No parents/spectators will be allowed in the transition area once is closes.
Swim-50 MetersThere will be 6 Divisions:
6-7 year olds
8 year olds
9 year olds
10 year olds
11 year olds
12-14 year olds
We will start in descending order with the 12-14 year olds starting first at 8:30 am. Participants will swim the perimeter of the pool. Lifeguards will be stationed above the pool as well as in the middle of the pool. This is not a sanctioned USAT event so participants are allowed to use kickboards, floats, noodles, etc. if they wish. A limited amount of kickboards and noodles will be available-our recommendation is to bring your own if you plan on using one. We will do a staggered start with 8 participants at 10 second intervals. If for any reason a participant needs help in the water, they are to pump their arm up and down to flag a lifeguard.
After the swim they will transition to the opposite end of the pool. Participants will exit out of the side of the building into the transition area. We ask for safety reasons that you inform your child to walk after exiting the pool. The pool area will be very slick and we don’t want kids to slip and fall.
Every participant MUST wear a helmet. No biker will be allowed on the bike course without wearing one. NO EXCEPTIONS.
The bike course is a 1 mile loop ride around Halleck Park Road for 6-11 year olds and a 2 mile loop for the 12-14 year olds. The participants will follow a counter-clockwise route with cones positioned at the end of the loop to direct them either to the transition area to start the run or to continue on for the final loop on the bike course. A volunteer will be there to direct the racers where to go.
The entire bike course will be closed off to ensure kids safety on the bike course. We will barricade the entrance to the event at the intersection of Lincoln Rd and Halleck Park Rd as well as Halleck St. and Halleck Park Rd. There will be 1 water aid station on the bike course.
The last part of the race will take the participants along the sidewalk area that is adjacent to the transition area. Participants will run a .5 mile loop and finish at the finish line located on the trail. There will be 1 water aid station on the run course.
The best part-the finish line! We will have medals and t-shirts for the triathletes at the end of the race. There will be food and water for them at the finish line.
The FUN FEST will be located in the opposite parking lot. There will be bounce houses, activities, and other fun things for the kids to do after they finish.
